Connecting ERP, PLM, MES and WMS to a DPP

A DPP should not become a second unmanaged master-data system. Start by identifying which enterprise source owns each field and event.

Typical system roles

PLM may own product design and material structures; ERP may own commercial and supplier records; MES may provide production evidence; WMS may capture inventory and shipment events; PIM may manage customer-facing product content.

Choose the exchange pattern

Depending on scale and system capability, use scheduled files, event messages, APIs or integration middleware. The simplest reliable pattern is often best for the first pilot.

Protect data quality

Define required fields, validation, provenance, approval, retries, error queues and ownership. Monitor whether data is complete, timely and connected to the correct identity.

Design for change

Keep mappings documented and avoid coupling every source directly to every application. A durable architecture can add new passport fields, partners and lifecycle services without rebuilding the entire stack.
